Steven Rodriguez Associate Attorney

Steven Rodriguez is a Houston native who earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Houston before obtaining his Juris Doctor, with honors, from the South Texas College of Law Houston.

Steven began his legal career as a paralegal handling property insurance claims while working his way through college. He later gained experience as a law clerk assisting with high-value personal injury matters, developing a strong foundation in litigation and case management.

As an Associate Attorney with Ramey Chandler Schein, P.C., Steven focuses his practice on personal injury defense and civil litigation. His experience includes defending motor vehicle accident claims and commercial trucking cases, where he works closely with insurance carriers, adjusters, and clients to achieve efficient and effective resolutions. Steven is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.

Outside of his legal practice, Steven is an avid supporter of Houston sports, particularly the Houston Rockets. He also enjoys film photography and traveling, pursuits that allow him to explore new perspectives and experiences.

Zach Daley Associate Attorney

Zach Daley graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in corporate finance. After a year working as an English teacher in Ho Chi Minh City, Zach went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Kansas. While there, he participated in a variety of advocacy contests, including moot court, traffic court, and an external contract negotiation competition. Zach has experience on both sides of the criminal justice system through his work for the KU Project for Innocence as well as the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney’s Office in New Orleans. Zach graduated with certificates of specialization in advocacy, business & commercial law, and international trade law & finance.

Zach began his practice as an associate at another Houston-based defense firm, handling high-value third-party trucking litigation and construction defect claims, including catastrophic losses involving umbrella & excess coverage. In addition to high coverage suits, Zach has represented brokers in real estate transactions, construction subcontractors, and small-business owners in premises claims. Zach has obtained favorable defense settlements in counties across Texas and is licensed to practice in the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Federal Districts of Texas.

Outside of the law, Zach enjoys watching the Minnesota Vikings try their best every year, in addition to playing music and computer strategy games.

Mohammad Jafri Associate Attorney

Mohammad Hasan Jafri earned his B.S. in Psychology, cum laude, with a minor in Law and Values from the University of Houston. He received his J.D. from South Texas College of Law Houston, where he actively participated in the Houston Young Lawyers Association and the Garland R. Walker American Inn of Court, and volunteered with the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Mohammad brings a diverse legal background spanning commercial litigation, real estate, and community-association matters. His prior clerkships focused on transactional work, risk and compliance, and tax due diligence. He currently practices at Ramey Chandler Schein, P.C., where he concentrates on first- and third-party insurance defense.

Outside of his legal practice, Mohammad enjoys traveling, watching films, reading nonfiction, staying informed on current affairs, and coaching youth basketball.

Wendy Newell Associate Attorney

Wendy Newell brings over two decades of diverse legal experience to her practice. A graduate of the University of Kansas, where she competed as a varsity rower, Wendy earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting before obtaining her Juris Doctor from Creighton University School of Law in 2002.

Over the years, Wendy has practiced in four states, with experience spanning criminal law, family law, and workers’ compensation defense. Virginia Williford Of Counsel

Virginia Williford has been practicing law in Texas since 1986, focusing primarily on personal injury defense. She brings nearly four decades of litigation experience to her practice, having successfully tried approximately 100 cases throughout her career. Her areas of expertise include automobile and trucking accidents, defamation, foodborne illness claims, premises liability, workers’ compensation, and first-party insurance disputes.

Ms. Williford earned her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in 1981, graduating with a double major in Pre-Law and Public Administration. She went on to receive her Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law in 1986. During law school, she distinguished herself in advocacy, winning first place in the prestigious Spurgeon E. Bell Moot Court competition in 1985. She was also selected for the highly competitive Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Team, which went on to place third nationally.

Throughout her career, Ms. Williford has developed extensive experience working with medical and accident reconstruction experts and managing complex litigation from inception through trial.

In addition to her legal accomplishments, Ms. Williford is proficient in French and has studied Czech at Charles University (Univerzita Karlova) in Prague. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Litigation Section.

Fred L. Shuchart In Memoriam

Ramey, Chandler, Schein, P.C. mourns the loss of our colleague and friend, Fred L. Shuchart, a respected Shareholder whose impact on our firm, clients, and the legal community was profound.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Fred was a distinguished scholar, earning his undergraduate degree in Economics and German from Duke University, graduating magna cum laude. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Washington University School of Law, where he was honored with induction into both the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Barrister—a testament to his exceptional legal acumen and advocacy skills.

Fred began his legal career in St. Louis, where he contributed to the landmark litigation Kemner v. Monsanto, one of the longest-running jury trials in American jurisprudence. He later brought his talents to Texas, where he built a nationally recognized practice in insurance coverage law.

Over the course of his career, Fred earned numerous professional distinctions, including consistent recognition on the Texas Super Lawyers list in Insurance Coverage from 2007 to the present. In 2015, he was selected to the Super Lawyers Blue Ribbon Panel, and he was named a top lawyer in Insurance Law by American Lawyer Media and Martindale-Hubbell in 2013 and 2014. These honors reflect not only his legal expertise, but also the trust and respect he earned among peers and clients alike.

Beyond his practice, Fred was deeply committed to education and mentorship. He traveled nationwide presenting seminars on coverage and extra-contractual issues, sharing his knowledge with clients and colleagues. Locally, he dedicated his time to the Houston Bar Association’s “Teach Texas” program, helping educate young students about the court system. He also served as an adjunct instructor at South Texas College of Law Houston, where he taught insurance law and helped shape the next generation of attorneys.

Fred was licensed to practice in Texas, Missouri, and Illinois, as well as before all Federal District Courts in Texas and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Fred will be remembered for his intellect, professionalism, and dedication to the practice of law, as well as for his generosity in sharing his knowledge with others. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working with him.

John Elwood is an accomplished trial attorney with more than 30 years of courtroom experience in both state and federal courts. Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1999—a distinction earned by fewer than 2% of Texas lawyers—John represents clients in a broad range of civil litigation matters. Travis Grosscope Shareholder

Travis Grosscope graduated magna cum laude from Baylor University in Waco, Texas with a degree in music, focusing on vocal studies. He went on to study at Tulane University Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he participated heavily in the sports law program and completed an externship with the National Labor Relations Board.

Upon graduation from law school, Travis moved home to Houston, Texas, where he joined Ramey, Chandler, Schein, P.C. as a first-year lawyer. Under the tutelage of his mentors and peers, he developed a love for trial work inside and outside of the courtroom. Travis is comfortable and confident in the courtroom, taken from years of musical training and performance. In practice, he believes strong relationships across all professional spheres sets him apart in achieving the best possible outcome for clients who have chosen to place their trust in him. Travis prides himself on being available, efficient, and energetic.

In his free time, Travis loves to spend time with his wife, Sophie, exploring the food and wine scene in Houston and traveling to see the world. At home, he is very likely tuned into a Houston Rockets broadcast or playing pick-up basketball with his friends.
